SUMMARY
A well known and highly original 1974 Ford Escort RS2000 Mk1, restored by AVO Club Registrar Kerry Sealey and showing just 28,891 miles. Multiple RSOC concours winner, featured in Popular Classics magazine (Feb 1993) and accompanied by a nearly complete MOT record from 1981 onward.
DESCRIPTION
Background:
Developed by Ford’s Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) division, the Mk1 Escort RS2000 was introduced as a performance road car with real motorsport potential. Featuring a 2-litre Pinto engine, unique styling cues and suspension derived from Ford’s rally efforts, the RS2000 quickly built a reputation as one of the most rewarding drivers’ cars of its era. With a light footprint and simple mechanicals, it became a staple of both fast road driving and grassroots competition – and remains highly regarded by enthusiasts today.
The Car:
Registered in 1974, this example has become well known within the RS and AVO communities. It was restored by Kerry Sealey, the AVO Owners Club registrar, to an exceptionally high standard and later owned by the AVO Owners Club President. With a recorded mileage of 28,891 miles, the car is supported by MOT certificates dating back to 1981, lending strong credibility to the mileage displayed.
In February 1993, the car was featured in Popular Classics magazine – a copy of which is included with the vehicle.
The RS2000 is presented in Daytona Yellow with Custom Pack cloth interior, factory-correct RS alloys and a full set of Dunlop SP Sport Aquajets, including the unused matching spare. The factory toolkit and jack remain in the boot.
Recent maintenance includes:
- New genuine Weber carburettor (correct specification)
- New brake linings from Burton Power
- Oil and air filters replaced
- Recent oil change
- New points and NGK plugs (period correct)
Mechanically, the car remains close to factory specification with no known performance modifications. Panel fit, body lines, and overall finish reflect the quality of its previous restoration, while the condition of the interior, paintwork, and brightwork supports its concours credentials. Although it hasn’t been campaigned in recent shows, only minimal preparation would be required for future concours participation.
The car has been in the current ownership for over 14 years and has been kept in climate-controlled storage throughout.
Documentation includes:
- RSOC concours logbook and photos
- MOT history back to 1981
- Magazine feature
- Service records and receipts
