SUMMARY
This pretty aluminium chassis kart is powered by a 180-watt 12-volt electric motor with a top speed of around 10mph.
DESCRIPTION
Found in Modena and restored in the 1990s, it measures 205cm long and 80cm wide. The electric motor has been overhauled and the lights are working. The electrical system is new, as it was absent from the vehicle when discovered. The chassis, bodywork, wheels, headlights, and steering wheel are original and it only operates in forward gear.
Background/ the Item:
In the late 1950s, Enzo Monari, a skilled craftsman, began building model cars for children as a hobby. These models were meticulously crafted and often, they were made upon the request of customers as gifts for their children. Initially, Monari produced two aluminium models - this type in 1957 and a pedal car.
As Monari became more and more busy, he handed over the miniature car project to two friends, Igino Manicardi and Oscar Messori, two craftsmen who made exhausts for Ferrari and Maserati. The company produced the 0.3 PT (Piccolo Turismo) from the mid 1960s until 1976. The car featured a fiberglass body and an aluminium chassis, with power coming from an electric motor capable of reaching 12kph. The price of this model in the mid 1960s was $486 for the American market, which was a hefty sum at the time.
Included in the sale is the April 2000 issue of Road & Track, which features an article about the Letizia 0.3 PT.
Summary:
