DESCRIPTION
Background:
In the early hours of 1 January 2003—just one minute past midnight—a historic moment unfolded for one of the world’s most iconic automotive marques. The Chairman and Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars personally handed over the keys to the very first Phantom VII, ushering in a bold new chapter in the marque's storied legacy.
This event marked the culmination of what was famously described as “the last great adventure in automotive history”—a years-long endeavour to redefine modern luxury motoring. The Phantom VII's design was developed in utmost secrecy, conceived behind closed doors in a covert studio hidden within a former bank building on the north side of London’s Hyde Park.
In 2005, the company extended its vision of opulence with the launch of the Phantom VII Extended Wheelbase (EWB) edition. Measuring an imposing 6.1 metres in length, the EWB added 250 mm (9.8 inches) to the original chassis, delivering unparalleled space and comfort to the rear cabin.
With fewer than ten of these ultra-rare, UK-specified EWB models ever produced—and a price tag of £500,000 when new—this version of the Phantom VII remains one of the most exclusive and commanding expressions of automotive luxury ever built.
The Car:
Delivered new to its first—and still current—owner in September 2012, this example of Rolls-Royce’s flagship Phantom VII Extended Wheelbase model has led a remarkably gentle life. Collected directly from Rolls-Royce, the vehicle has spent its years navigating the streets of London, accumulating just over 14,000 miles.
Despite the urban setting, the car remains in exceptional condition throughout. The lustrous metallic black paintwork is pristine—free from swirls or chips—with only a single, barely perceptible pressure dent on the rear boot lid, visible only under certain lighting and angles, and easily correctable. All exterior trim and brightwork are similarly well-preserved, with the only blemish being minor corrosion beginning to appear on the self-levelling centre caps of the wheels.
Inside, the story is even more compelling. The cabin presents in virtually showroom condition. The expansive leather upholstery is unmarked, and the thick lambswool rugs show no signs of wear. All electronic and entertainment systems function flawlessly. Both front and rear seats, including their numerous adjustable features, operate perfectly—a critical detail for those who prefer to experience the Phantom from the rear compartment.
A modern classic in every sense, this Phantom VII EWB is not just a car—it is a statement of elegance and engineering, deserving of a place not only in history, but also in any discerning collector’s garage.
