SUMMARY
Open-top motoring with a manual gearbox, perfect for summer road tripping.
DESCRIPTION
Background:
Aston Martin took the spotlight at the 2006 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show with the official unveiling of the V8 Vantage Roadster—a drop-top version of its acclaimed V8 Vantage coupé. Designed to deliver open-air exhilaration without compromising performance, the Roadster featured a kerb weight of 1,710 kg, just 80 kg more than its hardtop counterpart. Despite the added weight, Aston Martin asserted that both versions offered identical performance figures.
To maintain structural rigidity after removing the fixed roof, engineers reinforced the chassis with a newly developed, ultra-stiff cross-member, ensuring the Roadster retained the sharp handling characteristics of the coupé.
By 2009, the Vantage Roadster had evolved further, offering a blend of high-end design and engineering sophistication. Signature swan-wing doors provided dramatic entry, while the cabin featured a mix of premium leather and Alcantara, complemented by a sculpted zinc-alloy center console. One of the standout luxury details was the crystal-capped key fob—both a functional element and a symbol of Aston Martin’s attention to detail.
Under the hood, the 2009 model received a performance boost with an upgraded 4.7-litre V8 engine, adding more power to the brand’s already impressive open-top GT. The V8 Vantage Roadster blended classic British elegance with raw driving excitement, securing its place as a key model in Aston Martin’s modern era.
Positioned as a direct rival to the likes of the Porsche 911, the Vantage aimed to broaden Aston Martin’s appeal beyond its traditional grand touring roots. With its athletic proportions, precise handling, and unmistakable styling, it marked a new era for the brand—one that embraced pure performance without sacrificing the craftsmanship and elegance synonymous with the Aston Martin name.
The Car
The example offered here is a desirable 4.7 litre model, mated to the 6-speed manual transmission. Finished in a respectable meteorite silver over black leather, the being delivered to the original owner Aston Martin Hardwoods.
Having had six previous owners, the car has been with its current custodian since 2015. All the while being serviced regularly by Aston Martin Grange, which can all be seen below.
The car is in lovely condition for its age and mileage, sporting very few signs of wear on both the exterior and interior. There is a minor scratch on the rear bumper, while the very lower lip has cracked. However, much of the car does have PPF film which has done an excellent job at maintaining the bulk of the paintwork.
On the interior there is only minor signs of wear in the usual high traffic areas, mainly the gear level and steering wheel, while the seats remain in excellent condition. There are no signs of leather peeling on the dashboard, all the switches show minimal signs of wear. The roof is fully functional. However, there is very minor wear on the headliner of the roof.
Mechanically the car feels excellent, a healthy shove from the 4.7 being pushed through the manual gearbox that feels box fresh. All the while being directed by the driver with nice light, communicative and reassuring steering that offers plenty of feedback. The car rides beautifully, with no knocks or rattles coming from the running gear.
With summer in full swing there is no better way to cross the English countryside, with open skies and bathing in the sound of one of Aston Martin’s best exhaust notes.
