DESCRIPTION

Background:

The Flying Spur is assembled by hand at Bentley's factory in Crewe, England. Briefly, due to a lack of capacity at the Crewe factory upon the car's introduction, 1,358 units of the first-generation Flying Spur, destined for markets other than the United States and United Kingdom, were built at parent company Volkswagen's Transparent Factory in Dresden, Germany. This arrangement ended in early 2007 when all assembly work reverted to Crewe.

The first-generation Flying Spur was officially unveiled at the 75th Geneva Motor Show in March 2005. It was equipped with a 5,998 cc (6.0 L) twin-turbocharged W12 engine, producing 552 bhp and 650 N⋅m of torque. The car came standard with a permanent all-wheel-drive system and could accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 195 mph. At the time, it was the world's fastest and most powerful production saloon.

The Car:

This sublime Flying Spur is presented in Beluga Black, which suits the Bentley perfectly. Despite Bentley having moved away from true coach-built cars with the arrival of the GT, the Flying Spur leaves onlookers in no doubt that this is still a very special car. Even with Bentley’s German ownership, the traditional design cues are extensive, paying homage to the marque’s illustrious past.

This Bentley has just ticked over 38,000 miles in 20 years, averaging just 1,900 miles a year. Lifting the bonnet reveals a pristine looking engine bay. By modern standards, the W12 is an impressive sight, with full Bentley branding, impressive embossing, together with '6 Litre' and 'Twin Turbo' badging. This is certainly an engine bay that helps underscore the impressive maintenance records accompanying this example.

With the GT and Flying Spur representing Volkswagen’s opening model to mark their Bentley ownership, there was no way they would be anything other than highly accomplished. The Flying Spur boasted a price tag of well over £120,000 in 2005 too, so it had to impress - it did and still does. The combination of power, performance, and commodious luxury is both heady and hard to rival. Given that, it is nigh on impossible to think of a better-quality, performance, and value proposition.

A sensibly priced car, worthy of any Collection or perfect for someone seeking a luxury daily driver.
