SUMMARY
An early example of TVR's most iconic designs, with a new chassis and £30,000 spent on the car it is offered in excellent condition ready for the British summer.
DESCRIPTION
Background:
Echoing the spirit of its classic predecessor, the Griffith 400, the modern TVR Griffith brought a bold, performance-focused approach to British sports car design. Unveiled with a striking fiberglass body and a minimalist 2-door, 2-seat layout, the Griffith tipped the scales at just 1,060 kg, delivering an exhilarating power-to-weight ratio.
At its heart was the legendary Rover V8 engine. The base model launched with a 4.0-litre unit producing 240hp, but TVR quickly upped the ante. By 1992, buyers could opt for a 4.3-litre version boasting 280hp, with an additional upgrade offering big-valve cylinder heads for improved breathing and performance. The pinnacle came in 1993, when TVR introduced its own 5.0-litre iteration of the Rover V8, unleashing a formidable 340hp.
All Griffith variants featured the Lucas Industries 14CUX engine management system and came equipped with a five-speed manual transmission sourced from Rover or TREMEC — cementing its status as a driver's car through and through.
Despite sharing much of its mechanical DNA with the more widely produced TVR Chimaera, the Griffith stood apart with its distinct, aggressive styling and significantly lower production numbers, adding to its exclusivity and appeal.
Raw, balanced, and brutally beautiful, the TVR Griffith remains a shining example of analogue performance and British engineering flair.
The Car:
The car offered for sale is the early but rare Griffth 400. Leaving Blackpool in 1994, finished in metallic blue over black leather interior. With a healthy 4.0-litre engine under the bonnet this example has powered owners through 68,000 miles of enjoyment.
Cosmetically the car is in great condition for its age and miles, with the exterior showing minimal stone chipping on the front end. While the rest of the paintwork appears to be in excellent condition. The iconic seven spoke wheels also appear to be in excellent condition, with no curbing or lacquer peel on any of the corners. The roof functions as intended, with clear rear screens and no tears.
The interior also follows the trend with its condition. All high traffic areas such as seats, steering wheel, pedals and gear knob all remain in great condition. While the seats are starting to show light creasing, there are no tears or any fading on the bolsters.
This vehicle boasts a meticulously documented service history spanning nearly three decades, with a combined investment of £30,693.50 in servicing, repairs, and a major chassis replacement. Here's a breakdown of its provenance and care:
Owner: 2013–2025
Purchased the vehicle on 22 July 2013 for £13,500 at 54,000 miles
Invested a total of £14,874.32 during his ownership, including:
£12,355.56 spent on a complete new chassis installation and related work carried out by JWorx Automotive, based in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire
Chassis supplied by RTRacing.co.uk, accompanied by additional parts
A full photographic record documents the chassis swap, clearly showing the change was due to age-related wear not accident damage
Owner: 2003–2013
Invested £11,528.33 over his decade of ownership, covering regular servicing and renovation work
Owner: 2000–2003
Purchased the car from The Chequered Flag on 10 May 2000 for £18,995 at 35,581 miles
Spent £3,524.50 on servicing over a three-year period
Owner: 1990s
Owned the vehicle when mileage was around 30,000
Recorded expenditure of £766.35 on servicing
The depth of documentation and continuous investment in maintenance, including a professionally installed new chassis, illustrates the car’s careful stewardship and long-term mechanical integrity.
