DESCRIPTION
Background:
Few vehicles have left a legacy as enduring as the original Range Rover. Introduced in 1970, it was a revolutionary design that combined luxury, practicality, and true off-road capability—creating an entirely new segment in the automotive world. Over a 26-year production span, the Range Rover evolved from a utilitarian workhorse to a refined and prestigious status symbol. By the early 1990s, the model had reached its most developed form, with features such as air suspension, a redesigned ‘soft dash’, and improved comfort levels that made the final editions some of the most desirable ever built. As production of the successor P38 commenced in 1994, the last of the Classic Range Rovers rolled off the line, now highly sought after for their timeless looks and analogue driving experience.
The Car:
This Classic Range Rover must surely be one of the last registered in the UK, with its registration on the 9th December 1994 being after production started of the car which replaced it – the P38. Supplied new to a Simon Wrey, it is in flagship Vogue SE trim and is supplied freshly serviced, with four new tyres and completely on the button.
Specified in Epsom Green over Walnut leather interior – which is the archetypal late-model colour combination, and rightly so.
Being a late-model “soft dash” Range, it benefits from full air suspension front and back, along with other last-year touches such as the steering wheel and “Classic” badge on the rear – a very rare spec indeed.
The history file is excellent, with the full book pack present, along with the price list, accessories brochure, and main brochure. The service book warranties mileage with stamps until 2007, with MOTs dating back to the ’90s.
As it sits today, everything works perfectly – including the air suspension. Four new tyres were recently added, and are OE-correct Goodyears to boot. It also benefits from a modern (but period looking) Blaupunkt USB stereo. The car was given a Category N marker in 2024, inconceivably due to damage to the offside wing and grille. The damage was minor and photos are available on request. A professional repair was carried out with a genuine wing and grille, and a specialist paint job. There is no clue that the damage was ever present, and frankly, it should never have received the marker at all.
In many respects, the original Range Rover offered the last of the best and the best of the last; here is an opportunity to have a part of it.
