SUMMARY
An increasingly rare and desirable example of the 2.8-litre C123 in a lovely colour.
DESCRIPTION
Background
The W123 Mercedes-Benz series was introduced in 1975. It was a hit from the beginning and with first-year production restricted, cars started to be changed hands on the secondary market for several thousand Deutschmarks over list price. One of Mercedes-Benz’ most recognisable and well-loved designs, the W123 (and the C123 coupé derivative seen here, which was introduced in 1977) soon developed a reputation for bulletproof reliability – it’s arguably one of the most solidly engineered cars there’s ever been. This means that even today the W123 series is a fantastic classic car buy.
In the spring of 1977, a coupé version was introduced on a shortened wheelbase versus the saloon. The C123 was available as 230C (later 230CE) and as 280C and 280CE in most markets. Unlike the W123 saloon, the rectangular headlamps were fitted to the C123 regardless of engine type.
The Car
This C123 has the more desirable 2.8-litre in-line six-cylinder engine that’s paired with an automatic transmission. Engine, transmission and electrics are all described as being in ‘good’ condition. The vendor reports it has a partial service history and has been well looked after. Being a 1983 car, it is also now MOT-exempt.
This is considerable low mileage for one of these having just ticked over 97,000 miles, this 280CE much more life to give to the next custodian. The car is finished in a period blue with matching blue interior, the vendor mentions and pictures suggest the car has some period patina to match the age and authenticity of the vehicle.
The car has had just six previous keepers in its 42 years life span. This is a presentable example of a durable and desirable manufacturer and is reasonably guided to entice any classic car enthusiasts.
