SUMMARY

Fast road Mini recently subject to a restoration.

DESCRIPTION

Background:

Compact, iconic, and endlessly charismatic, the Mini is more than just a car — it’s a cultural symbol with a punchy personality. Since its revolutionary debut in 1959, the Mini has redefined what a small car can be: nimble, stylish, and irresistibly fun to drive. Whether darting through tight city streets or hugging curves on country roads, the Mini delivers a driving experience that’s as cheeky as it is thrilling. With its unmistakable design and a legacy of innovation, the Mini proves that big adventures can come in small packages.

In 1982, British Leyland produced 56,297 Minis alongside more than 175,000 Metros — a stark reflection of the shifting market dynamics of the time. However, the close mechanical kinship between the two models worked in the Mini's favour. Sharing a common powertrain with the Metro, the Mini benefited from a suite of mechanical upgrades in the early 1980s, including the introduction of the A-Plus engine, 12-inch wheels with front disc brakes, enhanced soundproofing, and a quieter, more robust transmission. These updates not only helped modernise the ageing icon but also made it significantly more economical to manufacture, thanks to the parts commonality with its more popular sibling

The Car:

The car presented here has been subject to a full restoration by the renowned Midhurst Engineering in 2016, where a full strip down took place and every sign of corrosion was addressed. Including near side sill, plate and weld steps, offside sill, floor pans, boot, subframe, bulkhead and scuttle panels. As well as the rust repair a full mechanical overhaul of the running gear was undertaken, brakes and lines on all four corners, as well as the fuel tank removed and cleaned.

The car was then finished in the current colour of Primula Yellow over Black leather seats. New carpets were also installed to complete the cosmetic overhaul. It has since remained in a high-end storage facility and retains its condition from 2016.

Now offered for sale in a wonderful condition, this example is ready for its next custodian to use it and enjoy it.
