DESCRIPTION
Background:
Airstream began in 1931, the dream of one man, Wally Byram, to build a travel trailer that would move like a stream of air, be light enough to be towed by a car and create first class accommodation anywhere. After four decades of making their iconic silver bullet trailers 1974 saw the introduction of Airstreams first Motorhome but sales were modest and only four years later the decision was taken to cease production. This makes the Airstream Motorhome one of the most desirable models ever produced and this Airstream 310 being especially sought after being the largest single axle model.
The Motorhome:
This model was imported by the vendor from its only US owner with less than 48,000 miles on the clock and was immediately subjected to a £28,000 body and mechanical refurbishment including the overhaul of the running gear, new tyres, a brand new Holley Sniper EFI kit and rebuilt gearbox leaving the new owner with the option of sympathetically refurbishing the 1970’s interior or performing a complete internal overhaul. Although not yet registered with DVLA the import taxes have been paid in full as confirmed by the all-important HMRC Import Post Vehicle Checks satisfaction letter that accompanies the vehicle leaving the purchaser the straightforward process of registration once the vehicle has been MOT’d.
The motorhome comes with a large amount of history, including all the work done recently. The exterior has been completely polished so it now gives a mirror effect, the exterior also had multiple panels replaced from various marks and stone chips. The wheels have been fully refurbished and wrapped in six new tyres, also has been subject to a full brake system overhaul. The interior has been refurbished but kept mainly original, this was by the vendors choice, it all works and is the same as it was from the factory, you could fully modernise it or keep it as the same. This would be perfect for European road trips or be the envy of many at Goodwood revival, Glastonbury or any other similar festival. This is a rare opportunity to own a wonderful piece of American engineering, that has just been subject to a recent huge refurbishment.
