SUMMARY

Previously restored, this Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet is guided very attractively.

DESCRIPTION

First registered in 1969, this charming Beetle was imported to the UK in 1994. It remained with its first UK owner for a couple of years before changing hands in 1996. From then until 2005, the Beetle was kept in the Birmingham area, where it stayed with its second owner. The car was subsequently passed on to a third enthusiast, also local to the area, who owned it until 2011.

In 2011, the Beetle was acquired by its previous keeper, the proprietor of a wedding hire business. Affectionately named William, the car was meticulously maintained to ensure it always looked and performed its best for clients on their special day. A detailed handwritten logbook documents all work carried out, including the installation of electronic ignition and an upgraded electric fuel pump for improved reliability and easier starting, especially helpful during busy wedding schedules.

At its heart, the Beetle retains the classic air-cooled 1,200cc flat-four engine, known for its simplicity, durability and distinctive note. Though modest in power, the engine delivers a characterful and engaging driving experience, producing approximately 40bhp and sending drive to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission. It’s an iconic setup that captures the spirit of 1950s motoring and remains easy to maintain with excellent parts availability.

Finished in white with a cream interior and matching cream soft top, the car sits on whitewall tyres for a period-correct look. It does look to have been resprayed at some point in its life. While the Beetle is mechanically well cared for, some cosmetic TLC will be needed to bring the bodywork back to top form, alternatively William can be loved and driven as he is with character.

Included with the car are previous MOT certificates, service notes and a detailed handwritten book recording maintenance and upgrades.

William is now ready to embark on a new chapter with an enthusiast who will continue to cherish and enjoy this timeless, characterful classic.
