SUMMARY
Wonderfully presented example of the ever-popular MG B Roadster.
DESCRIPTION
Background
The MG B is a two-door sports car manufactured and marketed from 1962 until 1980 by the British Motor Corporation (BMC), later part of the Austin-Morris division of British Leyland. It was introduced on 19th September 1962 as a four-cylinder, soft top sports car. Variants include the MG B GT three-door 2+2 Coupé (1965–1980), the six-cylinder MG C (1967–1969), and the eight-cylinder MG B GT V8 (1973–1976).
Development of the MG B began as early as 1958, with the prototype known by its Abingdon codename: MG EX205. Replacing the MG A in 1962, production of the MG B and its variants continued until 1980 though fixed-roof GT models ceased export to the US in 1974. Combined sales of the MG B, MG C and MG B GT V8 totalled 523,836 cars.
The Car
This lovely MG B left the Abingdon factory in 1964, fitted — like most of its time — with the 1.8-litre B-series engine, producing 95bhp and capable of 0–60mph in around 11 seconds, which was fairly brisk for the era. It’s paired with the correct 4-speed gearbox with overdrive, which the vendor reports works perfectly.
The MG is finished in Iris Blue and paired with a dark blue soft top. The exterior is very well presented having undergone a full restoration in 2010 carried out by the previous owner. It sits on a set of 14" steel wheels with chrome hub caps.
The interior is equally tidy and retains some nice original touches. It still features the larger 16.5" steering wheel fitted to earlier models. The dark blue interior has been very well cared for and complements the exterior beautifully.
This well presented, garage-kept MG B Roadster is sensibly guided and offers a fantastic entry point into the classic car scene.
