SUMMARY
This left-hand drive, manual gearbox Coupé has covered an indicated 46,000 miles, the majority of which was in a warmer climate.
DESCRIPTION
Background
The story began in 1992 with a family-friendly Lancer saloon that someone at Mitsubishi decided to equip with the 244hp / 228lb ft 4G63T 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and AWD drivetrain from the Galant VR-4 — a very credible world rally car developed over two decades on the world’s rally stages.
244hp was a lot of power in the early 1990s, so that first road-going Lancer Evolution made quite a statement. Some say that 5,000 first-generation Evos were made exclusively for the Japanese market; others put the number at 2,500. Whatever the exact figure, they all sold within the first three days of going on sale.
Mitsubishi introduced the Lancer Evolution IX in Japan on 3 March 2005, and exhibited the car at the Geneva Motor Show for the European market on the same day. The North American markets saw the model exhibited at the New York International Auto Show the following month.
The 1,997cc 4G63 inline-four engine features MIVEC technology and a revised turbocharger design, boosting official power output at the crankshaft to 287bhp and torque to 289lb/ft.
The Car
This car was imported in 2018 and has had two owners since 2020. It’s finished in Wicked White. Standard features include a five-speed gearbox, front LSD, ACD, rear spoiler with carbon fibre centre section, halogen headlights, electric windows, and keyless entry.
The car has always been regularly serviced, with the most recent service carried out at 53,000 miles by the current owner, who has maintained it with no expense spared. It has a few tasteful modifications, which the vendor states improve the car nicely.
The modifications to the car consist of:
-
Yellow Stuff brake pads
-
Tein Flex Z coilovers
-
Iridium spark plugs
-
Exedy clutch and lightweight flywheel
There are numerous other upgraded parts fitted as well.
The interior, as shown in the photos, appears to be in immaculate condition. The part-leather bucket seats also appear unmarked. The car has been fitted with a Sony double-DIN head unit and upgraded speakers.
The odometer displays a mixture of miles and kilometres, equating to 54,000 miles. The car was also recently MOT’d, with the certificate valid until March 2026 and no advisories. This car has been exceptionally well cared for and is in remarkable condition for its age. It has been sensibly priced for anyone looking for a Japanese rally legend or a unique daily driver.
