John Surtees CBE (1934 - 2017) won his Championship in 1964 (the only man to win World Championships on both 2 and 4 wheels) , Alan Jones (Australia) took the title in 1980, Sir Jack Brabham (1926 - 2014), another Antipodean, won three championships (1959, 1960 and 1966) , Phil Hill (1927 - 2008), one of only 2 Americans to have won World Drivers' Championship title was crowned in 1961 and Nelson Piquet (Brazil), triple World Champion was successful in 1981, 1983 and 1987.
