SUMMARY
This rare hanging illuminated sign has a plastic front featuring a pin-striped suited figure, an enclosed metal rear, cloth wired working electrics and metal chains.
DESCRIPTION
One of the rarest examples of the Esso Blue Paraffin Home Delivery advertising series of the 20th century. Unlike the more common two buttoned figure known as Joe who featured in the UK mid-20th century adverts for Esso Blue, this pin-striped figure appears to be an American inspired mid 1930s to 1940s depiction. Measuring 40cm x 30cm to the front, the metal cased rear has chains for hanging and cloth covered wires powering the twin light bulbs. Remarkably well looked after and showing some wear as evidenced in the photographs. Preserved with period electrical fittings that would not meet UK current electrical safety regulations.
