2015 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS (991)

As the 911 evolved, so did the concept of a Targa roof, making its last appearance as a large sliding glass roof panel on a very limited number of 933 generation cars. After a time away from the options sheet, a new version of this configuration, now incorporating a glass hatch, was seen on 997 Targas from 2007. The Targa top came full circle in 2015 with the 991, marking a welcome return to the original concept, including a domed rear window, prominent basket handle roof bar and a familiar, though now fully automatic, solid removable roof panel.

This 2015 Targa 4 GTS is powered by Porsche’s non-turbo, rear-mounted flat-six which generates 430bhp @ 7,500rpm and 325ft/lbs of torque from 5,750rpm, driven to all four wheels via Porsche Traction Management. This particular example is equipped with the PDK gearbox, a popular option as the dual-clutch transmission offers the best of both worlds, providing the driver with the flexibility of fully automatic driving or manual control via the paddle shifters for a more engaging experience. Performance is also enhanced by the standard Sport Chrono package, which provides faster throttle response and more aggressive shift mapping. In addition, the GTS is fitted as standard with Porsche Active Suspension Management – Porsche’s proprietary adaptive suspension system with continuously variable dampers. Mechanically, this is the perfect package for a daily 911 that is also performance focused when you need it to be.

As a GTS model, this Targa 4 is endowed with an array of enhancements that distinguish it from its standard counterparts. The GTS-specific black accents, such as the gloss black wheels and door handles, create a more aggressive, purposeful look that complements its paintwork. Internally the cabin is fitted in black leather, with GTS-specific carbon trim that speaks to the car’s sporty nature. The new for 2015 Targa roof works in under 20 seconds, stowing the roof behind the drivers seat, all without sacrificing the structural rigidity that Porsche is famous for. It’s a feature that’s a perfect fusion of the old and the new delivering an open-air driving experience at the touch of a button.
