DESCRIPTION
This car was bought for Eddie Cheever for the 'Cheever Grand AM' race team from new in 2006.The first race was at Daytona 24hr utilising a Lexus engine. The car lead the race and had lapped the field during the night; the lead was finally lost during a round of pit stops under a yellow caution flag. With just 3 hours to go in the 24hr race and running in the top 5 overall, the newly developed engine overheated and the car, sadly, failed to finish. The drivers for the pretigious Daytona 24 hours were:
E. CheeverC. FittipaldiP. Carpentier
After Daytona, the car was converted to the Porsche 3.8litre engine and competed in 4 races - Daytona, Mexico, Homestead and Long Beach. The car's best finish was 2nd overall at Homestead with drivers Fittipaldi & Luhr.In Mexico and at Long Beach the car was driven by drivers Fittipaldi and Cheever.
Since then, the car has been in storage and in 2008 changed hands to the current owner/collector.In 2010, United Autosports Ltd prepared the car ready to race and oversaw three test days for Sunoco and Grand Am, as part of the Sunoco Daytona 24 hours Challenge where a driver wins a fully paid drive in the 24 hour race. Also in 2010, Motorsport News test driver Paul O'Neill drove the car for a feature track test which appeared in the magazine as a two page article, a copy of which comes with the Lot.
