SUMMARY
Based on a Pilgrim chassis, motivated by 400bhp's worth of 5.9-litre 'Magnum' V8, and featuring all the right 'bits', this is a faithful recreation of the ultimate Cobra, the 427SC.
DESCRIPTION
- Fabulous 427SC recreation built between 2005 and 2007 with just 12,500 miles since
- Although the Sumo’s registration papers date it at 2005, it has been recognised as a 1960s vehicle (hence the ‘66 plate) and is V5 registered correctly
- Well designed, cleverly engineered, and classically presented in metallic blue with white stripes and matching hardtop
- Powered by a 360ci Magnum now offering over 400bhp. Many parts have been sourced from USA to accentuate the authenticity, including the dashboard, badges, competition mirrors, cooling fans, exhausts and paint
- All the 'right' features Jaguar independent suspension, Salisbury LSD, Hurst Competition Plus shifter, Milodon sump, MSD ignition and distributor, Moroso air filter, Holley carb, Flowtech headers, side-exit exhausts with heat shields, and much more
- Three articles about this car in Complete Kit Car Magazine, “No Expense Spared Mega-Build,” Readers Car of the Year,” and “Blast from the Past.”
- West Sussex-based, Pilgrim Motorsports are still very much in business, still producing ‘semi-monocoque’ Sumo Cobra replicas, and importantly, spares for their earlier cars

Remarks
This is a faithful recreation of the ultimate Cobra, the 427 SC, which Carol Shelby created in 1965. it is based on a Pilgrim chassis with a 5.9 Litre Chrysler engine giving in excess of 400 BHP. It has Jaguar independent suspension and a Salisbury limited slip differential. Many parts have been sourced from USA to accentuate the authenticity, including “American Racing” wheels, dashboard, badges, competition mirrors, exhausts, paintwork and even US military aircraft seat belts. Key is that it is not just another replica, but it is a faithful recreation of the original 427 SC, and has been featured in leading magazines. Today, a genuine 427SC would fetch in excess of a million dollars.

Remarks
Registered in 2005, and completed in 2007. It has a genuine 1966 registration plate to enhance its authenticity. There have been 3 articles published about the car in leading replica magazines: “Superb Pilgrim Cobra, No Limits Build Mega-Mods,” “Readers Car of the Year,” and “Blast from the Past.” I acquired the car in March 2019. I bought it at auction and had to bid against the CEO of Pilgrim Cars, who wanted it back to use as a demonstrator. The car has been serviced, had a gearbox rebuild, exhausts recoated, and I have a box file of history, useful information, and the replica magazines. The next MOT isn’t due until January 2026.
