DESCRIPTION

The Arrows A21 was the car with which the Arrows Formula One team competed in the 2000 Formula One season. It was driven by the young Spaniard, Pedro de la Rosa, in his second year with the team and experienced Dutchman, Jos Verstappen, who had driven for the team in its Footwork guise in 1996.

The car proved to be very promising after the catastrophic 1999 season. De la Rosa looked set for podium finishes at Hockenheim and the A1-Ring, but lost time after a spin in the former and suffered gearbox failure in the latter. Verstappen also produced a number of impressive performances, culminating in fourth place at Monza.

The 2000 season also saw the team adopt a distinctive black-and-orange livery, in deference to their new title sponsor, Orange, which it retains today. The team eventually finished seventh in the Constructors' Championship, with seven points.

The A21 was manufactured by Arrows with a Carbon Fibre Monocoque chassis with crash resistant side laminates and an increased load rear roll structure. Originally fitted with an AsiaTech engine, chassis A21/06 now has a freshly prepared Hart V10 1030 E specification engine as used on the A19 chassis. This engine is 3.5litre, has had recent rebuild with pistons, rings, bearings, Del West valves, crack test and achieved 694hp at 14500rpm. It is capable of running at 16000rpm, but this significantly reduces the life of the engine. The original gearbox case with titanium bulkheads internally and has hydraulic/electronic gear change with paddle shift on steering wheel and six speeds.

The steering wheel has Motec software to configure for driver alarms, traction and launch control. This also has configurable logging facility for parameters on the engine and chassis. The engine is controlled via Pectel SQ6 software, again, with data logging capability, as well as control for the gear change. The suspension is an inboard operated independent set-up of carbon fibre wishbones with double tether restraint system both front and rear. This car was very different and unique in having pull rod suspension on the front, with long low nose, giving the Arrows higher top speed at most of the circuits at the time.

For the last four seasons chassis A21/06 has campaigned in the Boss GP race series, where results have included a 3rd at Donington, a top six finish at Spa and in the latest 2011 outing the car was a two-time finisher, again at Spa, achieving a 4th overall at this meeting.

This season the car has been prepared by Steve Gray of Steve Gray Racing in Aylesbury and it is he who has prepared the fresh Hart V10 offered with this Lot. The gearbox is reported to have completed perhaps five races in all.

Offered with this Lot is an impressive spares package meaning the new owner can go straight to the grid! This includes:2 front flaps, high and low downforce,1 front wing side plate,1 pair of barge boards,1 pair of carbon front lower wishbones,1 set of front torsion springs,1 engine cover,1 pair of steel rear upper and lower wishbones,1 set of rear brake ducts,12 wheels,1 starter and battery trolley,1 nose tool,1 set of coolers (engine water, oil and gearbox),4 new brake pads, plus 4 used,

Offered for sale from a private collection for the first time in many years, our resident expert, Trevor Foster, recognises this car to be a fantastically economical entrant into one of the most exciting race series' available.
