Remarks
This rare 1994 homologation specification GT4 was first registered in Japan in 1994 and imported to the UK in 1999. Only 2,500 vehicles with this specification rolled off the production line of which 2,100 were for the Japanese market. Very few ultimately made it to the UK and significantly less remain. This GT4 model was Toyota’s Group A vehicle for the 1995 World Rally Championship which saw them infamously banned for cheating when scrutineers discovered that a turbo restrictor plate designed to retard the vehicle to comply with 300BHP maximum limit was found to be fitted with an ‘ingenious’ spring loaded device to retract the restrictor to give power advantage. The file of early receipts and history show that the car was modified with Blitz exhaust and induction system and uprated dump valve purchased from Fensport in late 2003, fitted and tuned by Well Lane Turbo Centre, Leeds that recorded the vehicle producing 299BHP in January 2004. The current owner, a prominent northeast company director has owned the GT4 for the past twenty years and has been maintained by R&P Woods of Newcastle, Vine Place Sports and Performance of Wingate and the GT-R Heritage Centre also of Wingate. It has had a suspension upgrade and occasional MOT restoration work but otherwise has had no further modifications throughout current ownership. The car has been in storage for 9 years during which time MOT’s and required maintenance were upkept until December 21 and is now looking for a new owner who will restore it to its former glory. The ‘GT Four’ registration was on the vehicle when purchased and is included with the sale.
