Launched in 1989, the R129-series continued the SL dynasty from Mercedes-Benz, a Sport Lightweight' family which began in 1954 with the legendary 300SL Roadster and Gullwing', and has survived into its 6th generation with the current R231-series. Traditionally the most sporting model of the MB line-up, the SL was the preserve of the rich and famous when new. From the hypnotic dance of the electric hood mechanism to the roll bar that automatically flipped up if the car sensed an accident, the SL oozed sophistication with all the latest technology such as adaptive suspension with active damping, airbags, traction control, air con and a superb new five-link rear suspension all as standard. The Mercedes-Benz SL60 was the short number production AMG variant SL deemed, at the time, to be the flagship of the range. Its enormously powerful and ultra-smooth 6-litre V8 engine delivered ferocious performance which could be enjoyed from the luxury cabin for which Mercedes-Benz is renowned.

This particular right-hand drive Mercedes-Benz SL60 AMG was one of two cars specially ordered by the Sultan of Brunei and shipped to Brunei via Dar Es Salaam in 1993. Costing an eye-watering £154,000 when new, the car is finished in the special AMG colour of Cobalt Blue Metallic with a Kingfisher Blue leather interior, embossed headrest with the Sultans insignia and a body coloured factory hardtop. The specification on this car is incredible and boasts; electrically operated and adjustable seats and mirrors, passenger and driver airbags, Mercedes-Benz Security System (MBSS), acceleration skid control (ASR), power steering and ABS, wood trim and an anti-glare rearview mirror.

Brought into the UK in 2002 by a Ron Stratton, this SL60 AMG has had three former keepers before being purchased by our vendor in 2008. As with many of his high performance cars, our vendor sent the car to Chris Franklin at Center Gravity for a full geometry and suspension setup. Over the years of his ownership, the car has seen minimal usage, but has always been professional stored.
