SUMMARY
A beautifully presented, fastidiously maintained, very late production Type 53 Scirocco GT with just over 30,000 miles.
DESCRIPTION
- Manufactured on 05/06/1992, this car was one of the last VW Type-53 Sciroccos built, prior to production of UK-market cars ending on 30th June, over 18 years after production started in Mk1 form in 1974
- First registered on 01/08/1993, this special GT II remained in family ownership until the purchase by its current owner in 2016
- GT II enhancements included the larger naturally aspirated 1.8 litre 90 PS engine, colour-keyed bumpers, mirrors and body skirts, front fog lights, black striped rear lights, matt black exterior trim, height-adjustable front sports seats, upgraded interior trim and heated washer jets. This example also benefits from factory-fitted electric windows and central locking, only fitted to the very last UK-spec Scirocco GT II cars
- During current ownership, routine service work has been fastidiously maintained (see Seller Rating)
- Good history file including the original hire purchase agreement, extended warranty agreement, V5/V5C and MOT certificates, some tax discs, multiple DVLA SORN confirmation letters and handwritten notes
- A worthy competitor against other Sciroccos at shows such as Stanford Hall Volkswagen. With a fully documented mileage barely over 30,000 and just two careful owners, this car represents one of the most well preserved and unadulterated examples of the Type-53 Scirocco surviving today

Exterior
Bodywork:

Trim:
Remarks
The car presents very well, the paintwork displaying much of its original showroom sparkle. I have found no evidence of accident repairs, and believe 99% of the paintwork to be original. As you might expect, the car has picked up various stone chips and small scratches, mostly carefully touched in
Interior

Carpets:
Seating:
Headlining:

Boot:
Remarks
The overall condition of the interior is impressive. I have replaced the untidy 3-point static rear seat belts with the VW 3-point inertia reel belts fitted to late Sciroccos in Germany
Engine

Running:
Remarks
Well-presented, with a level of patina consistent with age and mileage. Starts, runs, and performs as it should. During my ownership, I have carried out normal service work such as oil and filter changes, spark plugs renewal, and ignition timing, idle speed and fuel mixture adjustments. I have renewed the timing and auxiliary belts, overhauled the carburettor warm-up systems, which included fitting a new wax stat, renewed the carburettor mounting flange, the rocker cover gasket, and the rear exhaust box, thoroughly flushed and renewed the coolant, and renewed the bonnet lining
Transmission
Gears:
Clutch:
Drive-Shaft:
Remarks
Operating as it should, with smooth progression and power delivery through all 5 gears and reverse
Running Gear
Axles:
Chassis:
Suspension:
Bearings:
Brakes:
Wheels & Tyres:
Remarks
As might be expected, many original underbody components have developed a degree of surface corrosion, not affecting function. In addition to routine brake fluid changes, I have renewed numerous braking system components, including wheel cylinders, brake shoes, caliper sliders, brake hoses and outer brake pipes. While doing this, I took the opportunity to also renew the rear suspension springs. I have upgraded the original steel wheels and Michelin MXV2 tyres with a set of refurbished VW “Montreal” alloy wheels, along with VW anti-theft wheel bolts and Semperit Comfort Life 2 tyres
Electrics
Minor:
Major:
Remarks
All functioning as intended, in their original unadulterated state. I have replaced the dealer-fitted Panasonic radio/cassette with a VW Gamma 3 unit of the correct model year, the top of the range option on late Sciroccos in Germany. I have also recently renewed the car battery
Vehicle History
Remarks
The V5 and V5C show that the car was first registered in the first owner’s husband’s name, then later transferred to her name, pending their subsequent divorce. This means the car is currently in its second ownership with its third registered keeper. As well as the original finance documents, the car comes with its service schedule booklet with 12 service stamps, numerous more recent spare parts invoices, and a detailed “birth certificate” and accompanying data sheet from VW in Germany, confirming the dates and places of manufacture and sale, and the car’s original delivery specification. Also of historical interest is a copy of an article published in the local press following the car’s original handover, reporting it to be the last Scirocco sold in the UK
