1990 Bentley Mulsanne S

There are few motorcars that truly evoke the pure motoring thrill of yesteryear, offering a rare combination of unrivalled build quality, driving pleasure and classy, understated, head-turning beauty. By the time the Bentley Mulsanne S was in production, Bentley had ironed out the earlier issues of the first generation Mulsanne and Turbo R's, and were manufacturing all that was best of the tried and tested model.

Accordingly, the Mulsanne S has the traditional, smooth 6.75 litre Rolls-Royce V8 with the aluminium alloy cylinder heads of its predecessor, the Bentley T2. The engine is naturally aspirated without the problematic turbocharger whilst also benefiting from the smooth and seamless 3-speed automatic transmission.

By 1987 the Mulsanne was looking stale so the company decided to spice it up with the introduction of the Mulsanne "S'. Many details were carried over from the mid-production Turbo R, including the alloy wheels, classic interior and the firmed up suspension for a more sporting ride. The exterior design changes included the replacement of the rectangular headlamps from the 1980s to quad round units in 1989. Manufacturing carried on until 1992 with the total production of the increasingly popular Mulsanne S remaining beneath 1000 units.
