  • Launched in 1980, the W126 S-Class offered 231bhp from its 5.0-litre V8 and set the standard for most luxury cars of the period
  • Styled by Bruno Sacco, its sleek silhouette hid all-round independent suspension, disc brakes, power-assisted steering and a range of powerful all-alloy V8 engines 
  • Features such as a driver and passenger airbag, anti-lock brakes, acceleration skid control, rear headrests, and seat-belt pre-tensioners were all innovative at the time
