DESCRIPTION
- Honda's CBX range first appeared in 1978 and was in the line-up until 1982
- Its six-cylinder, 1047cc engine was the first road bike engine to use the valve system developed for the race bikes in the mid to late 60s
- Mounted across the frame, with six carburettors and 24 valves, it was renowned for its smoothness and linear power delivery
- Weighing around 550lbs and with 105bhp the CBX was capable of 130mph and could do a standing quarter mile in 12 seconds
- Its sheer road presence made it an instant classic
- The 1981 model was updated with Pro-Link rear suspension, air-adjustable front forks, dual ventilated front brake discs, and a sleek fairing and was repositioned in the market as a 'sports touring' bike
- This transition resulted in lower sales and consequently the 1981 bikes are now the rarest
