SUMMARY
One of only a handful of early Mk1 1.0-litre Fiestas converted by Crayford to convertibles. From long-term ownership, just over 27,000 miles, and very well presented.
DESCRIPTION
- The Fiesta Fly was a convertible version of the Ford Fiesta, originally designed by David McMullan and produced by the Kent-based coachbuilders, Crayford
- Production began in 1981 and it's believed that approximately 18 Mk1 cars were created by Crayford themselves before selling the license to the coach-building division of F.English, a large Ford dealer based in Dorset
- The Crayford Convertible Club Register has records for just 91 examples of the Fiesta Fly and SKL 217W is listed as a 1980, ex-Channel Islands, Crayford-built car in Diamond White
- The conversion included reinforcing the inner sill sections and welding the boot lid shut, however, mechanically the cars remained the same with the 1.0-litre cars powered by the Valencia four-cylinder 957cc engine mated to a four-speed gearbox
- This example is offered from 11-years long-term ownership and remains largely original displaying a little over 27,000 miles on the odometer. We understand that the odometer read 24,500 miles in 2004 and 26,190 in September 2014 when purchased by our vendor indicating very light use over the years
- Retains original red cloth trim and appears standard apart from the Supersport alloys and tyres, a rare Hella spotlamp grille, and an aftermarket steering wheel
- Included are Crayford sales paperwork, tax disc holder, numerous bills, and 14 old tax discs dating back to 1990
- The opportunity to own a convertible version of Ford's ever popular Fiesta is one not to be missed
