SUMMARY

This Volkswagen Golf GTi 1,600cc ‘Swallowtail’ is a superb example of the original first generation hot-hatch, now restored to collector condition.

DESCRIPTION

  • Purchased in 2018 by its current keeper, the Golf underwent a two year sympathetic restoration. In heated storage since, covering just 20 miles
  • Fitted 1.6-litre inline-four producing around 110bhp, which is sent to the front wheels via a 4-speed manual gearbox
  • Stripped back to bare metal, it was subject to a glass-out full respray in its original black, black plastic wheel arch extensions with new black plastic bumpers and sits on refurbed 13" alloy wheels
  • Retrimmed throughout with new black and grey tartan cloth, new black carpets and complete with the iconic ‘golf ball’ gear knob
  • The original dash and steering wheel were kept, with the added addition of a period-looking modern Blaupunkt radio with Bluetooth
  • Supplied with photographic evidence of the restoration, along with invoices and spare wheel
  • The 'swallowtail' swage line design is a characteristic of the very first Mk1 Golf GTis, making them particularly desirable among enthusiasts
  • Renowned for kick-starting the modern hot-hatch market, this beautifully presented example of the coveted Mk1 GTi has been carefully and sensitively restored to original specifications, with a period-perfect appearance
