SUMMARY
A highly original 911SC, returning to the market after 17 years, carefully maintained and preserved in exceptional condition throughout.
DESCRIPTION
In 1978, Porsche launched the 911SC, reviving the SC designation for the first time since the 356SC. Unlike its predecessor, there was no Carrera variant of the 911SC, and modern Porsche literature interprets SC as 'Super Carrera'. The model featured a 3-litre aluminium flat-six with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel-injection, paired with a 5-speed 915 gearbox. Power output evolved during production, starting at 180PS (178bhp), rising to 191PS (188bhp) and by 1981, reaching 204PS (201bhp).
Offered here is what is believed to be one of the most original and lowest-mileage, UK-supplied 911 SCs in existence. First registered on 1st January 1978, it was delivered to its original owner finished in striking Silver Metallic with a black leatherette pinstripe interior and carried the private registration DN8. The car remained with its first owner for 30 years, though the V5C shows a change of keeper from company to private during that time.
In 1998, our vendor left his own 911 at a specialist garage and noticed a remarkably well preserved silver SC undergoing its MOT. The car, with just 3,000 miles recorded and reportedly only ever used on dry roads, left a strong impression. When informed the owner might consider selling, a deal was quickly agreed.
Since acquisition, our enthusiast vendor has used the Porsche sparingly, only in dry conditions, and has maintained it meticulously. It has been correctly serviced, stored in a Carcoon and is accompanied by a detailed journal documenting every journey and every item of maintenance, however minor. The car appears to remain exactly as it left the factory, the original tool roll is still in its factory wrapping, it retains its 'single mirror' configuration, the emissions pump remains in place and although the stereo has been updated, the original unit is included in the sale. Apart from a small blemish on the rear bumper, the car is virtually flawless. It is still fitted with a unique early whale-tail spoiler, similar in style to the US-only Weissach Edition and two of its original tyres have been retained as reference to its minimal use.
Presented for auction at the Silverstone Festival 2025, the 911 SC is offered with a voluminous history file including full ownership details, MOT certificates, old Tax Discs, valuation reports, service invoices and a wide range of supporting paperwork. This is a reference-quality car, potentially a preservation class-winner and an opportunity that is unlikely to be repeated. Offered with a realistic estimate, we welcome any inspection and are proud to represent this remarkable 911 SC on behalf of our vendor.
