- With the majority of the hard work completed, this is an exciting project
Porsche produced the 911E from 1968 to 1973, (B-F Series) replacing the 911(Lux), and it was designed to be the most comfortable and drivable of the 911 range fitting neatly between the 911T (Touring) and the 911S (Super). The designation 'E' came from the German for injection, Einspritzung, and the mechanical fuel injection system (MFI) was developed jointly by Bosch and Porsche to be used on the 911E and the 911S resulting in more power, better drivability, and a cleaner running engine. In 1972/3 the 911E (E/F-Series) benefited from a larger engine (2341cc), the stronger 915 gearbox, better brakes and the interior offered a few more creature comforts.
Purchased in 2002 by its present owner, this left-hand drive, manual gearbox, 2.4-litre, Targa was used sparingly when first acquired, before redundancy hit and the Porsche was put into storage with a 996 being pressed into service for regular use. The long-term goal was always to totally restore this increasingly rare 911, however, a new venture into the motorsport arena meant that time was at a premium and the project languished until 2018 when the bullet was bitten and work started in earnest. Before the entire car was professionally stripped to the bare shell, all the mechanical components were checked over with only minor oil leaks being noted before being rectified and a new clutch was fitted to the five-speed gearbox. The shell was dipped and repairs commenced as required. Whilst this work was being carried out, the purchase of new panels commenced at a cost of approximately £13,000, and these remain in their boxes ready to be fitted. Original seats being difficult to find, generally similar but more comfortable Mazda MX5 seats were sourced, retrimmed to mirror the original specification and are now ready to be fitted, as are a set of desirable 15” ‘Cookie Cutter’ alloy wheels.
Unfortunately, circumstances now dictate that our vendor is unable to complete the project hence it being offered in its entirety for the next custodian to complete and enjoy as intended. We are assured that this is a complete car and ripe for refinishing.
A sensible project with the majority of the hard work completed offering lots of potential with the added attraction of being able to select any one of the fourteen vibrant hues from the 1973 911 colour palette.
We would advise that interested parties view the car and components prior to purchase to fully appreciate the work that has already been completed and to also understand what lies ahead. With the values of these early cars continuing to firm this could be a rewarding project.
