SUMMARY

FIA/HTP papers valid until 2033, period history and restored recently with impressive results since, this is a rare opportunity.

DESCRIPTION

On offer here is a B25 built by the Chevron factory as a works F2 car to compete in European Formula 2 races in 1973 driven by Peter Gethin using a Ford-financed Brian Hart engine. Due to a tragic accident in the sister car, Chevron lost the support of the Ford-financed engines and so for the remainder of the season, this car entered several further rounds of the F2 Championship in 1973 in a much more low-key fashion. It's worth noting that it was also driven by the very well respected Formula 1 driver John Watson in one event that year as well.

In 1974, Chevron sold the car complete to hill climber, Reg Phillips, who campaigned it in the British Hill Climb championship for a few years before it was sold to another hill climb racer, John Stewart. Unfortunately, Stewart crashed it heavily and sold the wreck to Jeremy Bouckley who broke the car up in the early 1980s and sold off the engine and gearbox.

Thereafter #B25/73/7 went missing until it was found in the early 1990s by racing car dealer Roger Cowman. He sold it to historic racer Mike Wrigley who then eventually sold it to Rick Hall of Hall & Hall in the late 1990s. From them the car was sold to Simon Hadfield Motorsport who started restoring the car back to original specification. The current owner purchased the car partly restored from Simon in 2012 and he completed the restoration himself and has used it in five race meetings since the restoration.

Our vendor informs us that the tub was restored, incorporating many new parts including front and rear uprights, vented discs, suspension wishbones/radius rods, dampers, bodywork, wing and wing frame, wheels, instruments. It has been completely re-wired and re-plumbed and is now fitted with a Geoff Richardson alloy block BDG with only 500 miles since a rebuild, mated to a Hewland FT200 rebuilt by Tony Wilson.

Recent results include a second in an Oulton Park Gold Cup feature race in 2021 behind a Williams Formula 1 car and third in the Oulton Park Gold Cup Formula 2 race in 2022. We understand that it's eligible for European Historic Formula 2 Interseries and the HSCC Derek Bell Trophy where it is competitive against the later cars in both categories due to being eligible to compete at 450kg instead of 500kg, which makes it a cost-effective option compared to the later pre-78 Formula 2 cars with BMW/Hart engines.

#B25/73/7 has FIA/HTP papers valid until 2033 and is being offered with some spares including wheels and tyres, gear ratios and used bodywork.
