SUMMARY

Magazine featured, Signal Yellow, right-hand drive, 2.4-litre 911E with less than 53,000 miles in need of a new home.

DESCRIPTION

By 1972, the 911 model range had stabilised at three: the entry-level 911T, middle-ranking 911E, and top-of-the-range 911S, all of which were available as either a closed Coupé or Targa convertible. With the 2.2-litre engine's arrival, a common type of cylinder head was adopted, the differing power outputs being determined principally by valve timing rather than valve sizes as had been the case hitherto. In 1972, all 911 variants received the 2,341cc (nominally 2.4-litre) unit, which in the case of the 911E produced around 165bhp, 40 more than the original 911 of 1963.

Resplendent in its original colour of Signal Yellow, this stunning 1972 2341cc 911E literally cuts the mustard. It's supplied with a comprehensive history file that includes a servicing and maintenance history which reads like a who’s-who in the world of top UK Porsche Specialists. It was purchased new from Roger Clark Cars Ltd. of Narborough in December 1972 with Recaro sports seats and rear wash-wipe and the file contains invoices cataloguing the work carried out over the years by Autofarm, Parr Garage, Southbound, Clark and Carter, Paul Stephens, and latterly William Francis.

The file also contains photographs of a restoration in 1994 when it was repainted white but, in 2015, it was fully restored back to Signal Yellow. The interior has been retrimmed by Southbound in correct OE materials in 2000 which included all surfaces including the correct headlining material, dash and instrument panel. The original Fuchs alloys have been re-anodised.

The owner's file also contains a copy of a Classic Porsche World  Group Test where it came out on top because of its ‘’ responsiveness and sensitive handling ‘’ above the 2.4 S, and the original owner's wallet, super-rare original service book, and a spare blade key. If you have an unscratched early seventies 911 itch, this ‘groovy’ Signal Yellow 2.4 911E with those very rare black Recaros surely requires consideration.

Early 911s possess a certain purity of line, a complete world away from the aerodynamic extravagances of the 1980s and 1990s and in terms of style, it's the early cars that engender the most appreciative glances. A well set-up and maintained 911T or E, driven with an intelligent right foot, will provide some of the most quintessentially rewarding driving experiences you have ever had.
