DESCRIPTION
Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 V8. Registration Number: TBY98L Chassis Number: 10805722011253. Engine number: 116980220128.
The Mercedes-Benz W108 and W109 were highly luxurious cars built by Mercedes-Benz from 1965 through 1972 and the last truly hand-built S-Class Mercedes vehicles (aside from some current AMG models). Starting with the 116-chassis, production was moved from a dedicated team responsible for the entire vehicle assembly to production line principle for efficiency. This allowed Mercedes to produce more vehicles in the same amount of time. The 108 and 109 vehicles were also the last vehicles with the infamous "Mercedes look" - stacked headlamps and very large radiator.
Underneath there was all-independent suspension and disc brakes front and rear, while the fuel injected 3,499cc engine, producing an impressive 200 bhp at 5,800 rpm and 211 lb/ft at 4,000 rpm, was mated to either manual or automatic transmission. Whichever was chosen, performance was impressive; the V8 propelling the 280SE 3.5 to a 120 mph plus top speed with 0-60 mph reached in under 10 seconds.
Described by the vendor to be in excellent condition throughout, the car is finished in the attractive shade of light blue metallic with a silver metallic roof and blue interior. 'TBY 98L' comes with a documented service history from new. The car has the usual Mercedes refinements that include electric windows, electric sunroof and power steering. The owner of the car is a garage owner himself and has fitted the car with a stainless steel exhaust. Recently serviced with new brakes and pads, the car will be supplied with a works manual. The current owner has had the car for some 11 plus years, selling the car at one point and then regretting the move, he subsequently bought the car back.
This Mercedes-Benz presents a unique opportunity to acquire a 'no flaws' 1972 Mercedes Saloon.
