DESCRIPTION

CHEVRON B 21 - Chassis N0: 72-06

Derek Bennett was the individual responsible for the formation of Chevron Cars Ltd. He was a brilliant engineer, mostly self-taught and had a talent for modifying, repairing and sculpting automobiles. When he was not working at the factory, he could often be seen at nearby tracks where he raced mostly custom-built racing cars. The vehicles he constructed were dubbed 'Bennett Specials' up until the 'Chevron'; the name derived from a Highway Code symbol.

When Derek Bennet created Chevron Cars Ltd in the middle of the sixties, he had probably not expected his cars to win major races only a few years later. The first Chevron, the B1 was unveiled in 1965. Many evolutions had been launched during the following years, including the B5 which was fitted with a 2 litre V8 BRM engine and competed in Group 6 racing. It would bring the first win in an international race for Chevron, with a 1st OA at Brands Hatch with Brian Redman behind the wheel.

A new model was launched almost every year and in 1971 the B19 was unveiled to compete with the new Lola T210. With a spyder body and very powerful 2 litre engine, the B19 was extremely fast. The following year, the B21 was offered as an evolution of the B19. The car we are proud to offer here is a stunning and genuine 1972 Chevron B21. Originally raced by Roger Havens and Mike Garton, it placed regularly in the first ten during major races such as Vallelunga, Kyalami, Dijon, Nurburgring, Prix de Spa, Estoril, Imola and Barcelona, to name but a few. The current owner has many old articles and much history from Autosport were the car is pictured racing against Jochen Mass, Peter Gethin and Jody Scheckter in South Africa. At some stage during the 1970 era the car was shipped to Angola to compete. This was the beginning of the Angola civil war. The B21 became impounded and spent the next 20 years in a container. The B21 then eventually reappeared in Europe around 1990. The current owner purchased the car in 2008 and set about a full body-off restoration, including engine and gearbox, which has been done to a very high standard.

This superbly restored B21 is fitted with a recently rebuilt 2 litre BDG engine (dyno sheet available on request) and is equipped with BD2 2Ltr 8mm mechanical fuel injection. The gearbox is an Hewland FT200. This B21 has only had two test shake downs since this total rebuild and the car has always been perfectly maintained. Kept in "race ready" condition, it is priced here today very competitively. This exceptional Chevron B21 comes with full FIA papers and is ready to race.
