- A nimble, sporty bike considered a direct predecessor to the popular RD200 series
- Aimed at the commuter determined to have some fun on the way to the office
- Powered by a lively 197cc (200cc class) air-cooled, two-stroke parallel-twin offering 22bhp and 85mph
- Featured both an electric starter and Yamaha's reliable 'Autolube' oil-injection system
