DESCRIPTION
The MGC was a 2912cc, straight-6 version of the MGB sold from 1967 and produced through to August 1969. In the twin SU carburettor form used in the MGC, the engine produced 145bhp at 5250rpm. The body shell needed considerable revision from its predecessor around the engine bay and to the floor pan, but externally the only differences were a distinctive bonnet bulge to accommodate the relocated radiator and a teardrop for carburettor clearance. It had different brakes from the MGB, 15 inch wheels, a lower geared rack and pinion and special torsion bar suspension with telescopic dampers. Like the MGB, it was available as a coupé and roadster. An overdrive gearbox or three-speed automatic gearbox were available as options. The car was capable of 120 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 10.0 seconds.
The car offered here is a wonderfully correct and quite rare '69 MGC GT Automatic of which only 335 were built for the UK market. Finished in the pleasing and unmarked colour of Mineral Blue with new Webasto sunroof, this incredibly well-preserved car is a bit of a head turner. Within the cabin the feeling is no different. New black hide front and rear seats as well as replacement door cards on driver and passenger panels, accompanied by all the original instrumentation, gives the car a modern confidence without compromising the period feel. The car is complimented by 72-spoke chrome wire wheels and spinners with the remainder of the cars brightwork having been replaced with new also.
The subject of an extensive restoration not more than 11,000 miles ago, the driving and the handling of the car is also first rate. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt during its restoration, and at the same time a new brake servo unit and replacement steering rack were introduced. Accompanied by a stainless steel exhaust system, the spritely drive delivered by the assured automatic gearbox delivers a pleasing sound from the back of the car.
All told, this smashing little car is hard to beat, and with prices firming up in the MGC market, this car is offered here today with very reasonable expectation.
In 1969, HRH Prince Charles took delivery of an MGC GT, which he passed down to Prince William 30 years later. If it's good enough for them ...
