DESCRIPTION
Two owners, the current for 24 years...The Mk II was a handsome, powerful and great handling saloon which was offered with a choice of three six-cylinder, twin-cam engines, 2.4, 3.4 or 3.8 litre. The Mk II 3.8 litre is a quick car even by today's standards. The engine produced 220bhp and was capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds and could reach a top speed of 125mph and, when the car was new, it was unquestionably one of, if not the fastest saloon car on the planet.
This stunning manual example was registered on the 16th November 1966 and was delivered with the 3.4-litre engine to the first of two owners. Our vendor, who took over custodianship on the 22nd July 1992, carried out a program of restoration works that included upgrading the engine with the highly desirable and common 3.8-litre replacement with overdrive. A generous sum of £21,000 was reportedly spent over the years, and it shows. The dark blue coachwork gleams, the chrome dazzles and the grey leather interior is remarkably fresh. Showing an odometer reading of 7,538, we presume 'TAR 262D' has 'gone round the clock', which is largely immaterial in such a well-restored car.
Presented to auction with an MOT until 4th January 2017 our vendor, a successful businessman with ever burgeoning commitments, wishes to pass the custodianship to the car's new and third proud owner.
