SUMMARY
Broadspeed-built and Twin-Cam powered, a wild and wonderful Anglia with plenty of racing history behind it and plenty of racing ahead of it.
DESCRIPTION
Originally known for successfully running a stable of racing Minis, dissatisfaction with B.M.C. support and the timely arrival of an offer from Ford served to convince Ralph Broad that a change-over to Anglias would not be a bad move. Subsequently the Team Broadspeed maroon and silver 997cc Cosworth-Ford Formula 3-engined Anglias pedalled by John Fitzpatrick, Peter Proctor, Chris Craft and latterly Anita Taylor became synonymous with the British Saloon Car Championship in 1966 and 1967.
A far cry from the modest family saloons that rolled off Dagenham's production lines in the 1960s, this remarkable Ford Anglia 105E is believed to be a genuine Broadspeed-developed car. Unlike most Anglias modified for competition, this car is based around a bespoke box-section spaceframe chassis, clearly engineered with serious circuit racing in mind. The shell has been heavily reworked to accommodate a substantial gearbox tunnel, bespoke suspension and a revvy Twin-Cam engine, a combination that makes this one of the more extreme and competitive Anglias we've ever seen.
The front end utilises Lotus-derived double wishbone suspension paired with adjustable coil-overs and a shortened rack, giving the car far more precision and adjustability than a standard production Anglia. It also benefits from a disc brake conversion, ensuring stopping power to match the straight-line speed.
At the heart of the build is a Fiat 1600 Twin-Cam engine from a 1968 124 Spider, now fitted with motorcycle carburettors and delivering a reported 175bhp. The engine sits low and well back in the chassis, improving balance and weight distribution and is paired with a modified Ford 2000E gearbox featuring internals from Edmonton Tool & Engineering, the gurus of classic transmission upgrades.
With its period correct tuning heritage, lightweight construction and uncompromising stance, this is an Anglia like no other, a seriously fast and highly focused car with real provenance and race-ready attitude. Whether destined for historic competition, hill climbs, or simply enjoyed as a rare piece of modified Ford history, it’s a unique offering and a tribute to the creativity of the Broadspeed era.
The history file reads very well with plenty of racing history, an old MSA Competition logbook and hand-written notes of what’s been done to the car, period photos and lots of invoices.
A raw and rare slice of British motorsport engineering offering remarkable value, this 105E stands out not just for its presence, but for its history and raceability at very reasonable estimates.
