SUMMARY

In previous family ownership and with 1989 movie provenance, this early Mini marked 'Elvis' Priestley's debut on Wheeler Dealers.

DESCRIPTION

  • One family owner for many years, it was purchased new in 1965 and used up until 1981 when it was passed down to the children who used it regularly until the 1990s
  • Appearing in the 1989 Film Scandal, a film about the 1963 John Profumo affair, it can be seen outside the flat at Number 2 Bathhurst Mews, shared by Stephen Ward (John Hurt) and Christine Keeler (Joanne Whalley) and we understand, later being driven by 'Christine Keeler'
  • Affectionately named 'Ethel' after the family's grandmother, it was fully restored in 1994 and remained in use by the family until 2006
  • Later purchased as a non-runner by Mike Brewer, a huge Mini fan, it featured in Episode One, Series 17 of Wheeler Dealers and was the first car worked on by Marc 'Elvis' Priestley for the show
  • It was eventually coaxed back to life by Elvis with a new battery, plugs and clean fuel, the clutch system was overhauled with new master and slave cylinders and after a road test revealed failing drum brakes, they were replaced with more efficient discs
  • With the help of Elvis' friend Nick Swift (Swiftune), further engine work included hardened valve seats, upgraded valve gear and the head was 'ported and polished' offering substantially improved performance
  • The Mini was repainted during the restoration in OEW and we are advised by the vendor that it remains in very good. The chrome work was treated to a new technique in chrome spraying was tried and the results were very impressive. The original Tartan Red interior has not been touched and is perfectly functional, offering the choice of restoration or leaving it as it was during its 1989 'movie star' days
  • Recently serviced by Sleaford Mini Centre, this is an opportunity to acquire one of the world’s best loved classics, with a fascinating story to tell
