SUMMARY
Fabulous, MG B-engined, Andy Dawson built, road-race MG A that's led an interesting life.
DESCRIPTION
- This charismatic 1958 MGA Coupé has been enjoyed by three previous owners, the most recent of which owned 368 DLG for 50 years
- In the early 1980s it was decided to enter the car in the 1984 Peking to Paris Rally and preparations began well in advance
- That particular rally is a car breaker so Andy Dawson of Dawson Auto Developments (DAD) was enlisted to help the owner build a car that was strong enough
- A completely bespoke chassis was designed and built, suitably strengthened and construction continued with a complete roll cage, upright suspension, inner fibreglass sections and outer wings prior to the rest of the bodywork being reinstated
- It was fitted with a 2-litre MGB engine built by Entune of Radcliffe with Lotus pistons and a race cam mated to a close-cut MGB gearbox. More recently it's been fitted with Weber 45DCOE and continues to run well with great oil pressure
- In the event, 386 DLG never made it to the rally but was campaigned for many years by its owner in night rallies and at Oulton Park, Silverstone, Prescott Hill Climb and numerous sprints until laid up in 2000
- The car is supplied with 50 years of history including, importantly, drawings and photographs of Andy Dawson's unique chassis design and clever fabrications
- Many, many thousands have been invested in this remarkable little MG and more information on the build and specification is available to interested parties
- at auction viewings
- 368 DLG is very well known and fondly remembered by the racing and rally community, and deserves an owner who appreciates it for what it is

The electric wiring was done professionally at the time, it is very neat and certainly not a messy abundance of wires. It is very basic no complicated ECU’s to be of any concern. on the lighting side will require checking through, the front spot lights are not connected.
Vehicle History
Remarks
MGA 368 DLG is very well known and remembered by the racing and rally community, the previous keeper owned the car for over fifty years used as a daily driver and a night rally car. Rebuilt at great expense from a bare chassis and modified in the 1980’s for the Peking to Paris Rally of 1984 that rally never happened but the car was kept as a fun road car and competitive track car until laid up in 2000.
Restoration Notes
Another rebuild began in 2019 the excellent rust free chassis epoxied black, the body repainted, replacement rear steel wings, sills and fibreglass front wings, doors are original alloy. The rear axle completely overhauled in 2019. More recently reassembled and running, new battery, new water pump, fuel lines, Weber 45DCOE and new brakes. Starts on the button and drives really well however it will require a shakedown and some preparation for either road use or track. The race harness has been removed however the fixings are there for new ones to be fitted if required.
