1905 Asprey Fine Wicker and Oak Cased Four Person Gigantic Picnic Set

The picnic set is beautifully constructed in woven wicker with seasoned oak (no worm). As it is 120 years old, it obviously carries age use and patination, giving the set great charm. All totally correct 1905 leathercloth-lined and retains all its wonderful interior and external fitments fully edged in nickel brass, enabling the owner to stow the set in the rear of the car allowing passengers seating in comfort. Very unusually, the set has not been relined, the metalwork replated or the leather replaced during its lifetime, so retains its total integrity and originality.    

Complete with its wonderful polished copper kettle, original woven wicker handle and brass lid held with the correct brass chain in lovely unrestored condition, copper burner and matching copper fretwork burner stand. A set of four Wedgwood stacking China cups, open fine wicker covered large drinking bottle, milk bottle, honey leather covered Thermos flask, enamel-based sandwich box with its original nickel silvered lid in nickel plate, obviously showing plating age. Also included are a ceramic butter pot with its matching lid secured with the correct leather strap, a set of two wicker covered condiment jars, plus two ceramic spice jars in leather holders, fine glass milk bottle and a small spirit container in woven wicker glass container. Presented with a full set of cutlery with travelling corkscrew. A set of four round gilt edged enamel plates and two larger serving plates attractively held in the lid in the original leather straps. Two wicker covered sets of two in each nest of stacking drinking glasses are also supplied. The lid is held in place with two 1905 fine leather straps. The heavy case has sturdy original nickel plated brass carrying handles each side plus two swivel catches and  secure lever central nickel brass lock.
