So said the late, great Roy Salvadori and it is difficult to imagine a more perfect setting for the motorsport enthusiast than 24th August 1963, sitting on the bank between Fordwater and St Mary's as the field - peppered with Grand Prix stars - blasts through "no name' corner on the first lap of that year's Tourist Trophy race. Here, Graham Hill's Maranello Concessionaires Ferrari 250 GTO leads a gaggle of cars including Salvadori in Tommy Atkins' Jaguar E-Type Lightweight (86 PJ); Jack Sears in another Lightweight E-Type (4 WPD); Mike Parkes in John Coombs' Ferrari GTO, the Aston Martin Project Cars of Bruce McLaren(1) and Innes Ireland (2) and the ill-fated Prince Zourab Tchkotoua Ferrari GTO driven by Tommy Hitchcock. While Hitchcock rolled his GTO into retirement at Madgwick later in the race, Hill went on to win from Parkes, Salvadori and Sears.
