DESCRIPTION
Background:
Land Rover’s venerable Defender series debuted in 1983, taking over from the tried and trusted Series Land Rovers, beloved by generations of farmers, soldiers, explorers and adventurers. A design icon as globally recognised as a London black cab or a double-decker bus, the Defender ushered the all-wheel-drive, go-anywhere, do-anything Land Rover into a new era. It introduced improved on-road manners thanks to its all-coil spring suspension and permanent all-wheel drive with a lockable centre differential, both borrowed from the Range Rover.
A sales success from day one, the Defender’s 33-year lifespan and excellent survival rate mean these vehicles are likely to remain a regular feature on and off the roads for many years to come.
The Car:
First registered in 2008, this Defender 110 Hardtop began its life with Land Rover Special Vehicles, where it was owned and serviced before being acquired by its current private keeper. Since then, it has been refurbished, upgraded and resprayed, and now presents in a striking shade of grey with a contrasting black roof and wheel arches.
Further cosmetic enhancements include black treadplate, a heavy duty bumper, side steps, corner protectors and a new custom grille with matching light surrounds. The vehicle sits on black Wolf rims and is equipped with a tow bar and power steering.
The cabin has been improved with the fitment of Discovery leather front seats.
Naturally, being a Land Rover, it possesses legendary off-road capability. The car runs and drives superbly both on and off the road, with smooth operation through the 6-speed gearbox. Both high and low range work exactly as they should, making it ready for immediate use.
A collection of bills and receipts from the current ownership accompanies the vehicle, documenting the work carried out and outlining the care invested in its upkeep.
