DESCRIPTION
Background:
For the 2002 model year, the Land Rover Defender received a number of technical and comfort-focused upgrades, with the refinement of the Td5 engine to meet tightening emissions regulations and the introduction of the new top-tier "XS" trim level. This variant combined the Defender’s rugged off-road capability with a suite of luxury features not previously available in the range.
Standard on the XS were heated seats, a heated windscreen, part-leather upholstery, air conditioning, ABS and traction control. Further refinements included an improved dashboard layout with centre console, upgraded instrument illumination and, for the first time, front electric windows. Practical improvements were also made to the rear door, replacing the problematic two-piece arrangement with a single-piece unit featuring a rubber weather seal for the glass.
The Car:
Finished in Tonga Green, this 2005 Land Rover Defender 110 XS has covered a warranted 40,000 miles from new, equating to just over 1,800 miles per year. It has had only one former keeper, with the current custodian owning the vehicle for the past decade.
Throughout its life, the Defender has enjoyed a fully documented service history. Under current ownership it has been maintained by a local specialist, receiving annual servicing and MOTs. The Td5 engine is chain-driven, offering peace of mind with no timing belt to manage. The chassis remains in original condition, never having required repair or welding.
In addition to its original specification, all features including the air conditioning, heated seats and heated windscreen are reported to be in good working order. The tyres have been replaced within the past two years and retain plenty of tread.
