DESCRIPTION
Background:
The E36-generation BMW M3 Evolution, launched in 1995, represented the pinnacle of BMW’s performance car engineering of the era. Powered by the 3.2-litre S50 straight-six, producing 321bhp, it combined high-revving performance with everyday usability. Distinguishing features included improved aerodynamics, uprated suspension, larger brakes and detail refinements over the earlier 3-litre M3. Available in both manual and SMG guise, the Evo offered a true driver’s experience that cemented the M3 as a benchmark performance coupé.
The Car:
First registered in 1999, this M3 Evolution has covered just 50,000 miles from new. It was originally specified with BMW’s SMG gearbox but has since been converted to the more desirable 6-speed manual transmission. After spending a lengthy period off the road, the car was brought back to life in 2023 with a thorough recommissioning programme.
The work included a full respray and a detailed restoration of the underside, which was resealed for longevity. Mechanical refurbishment was equally extensive, with new suspension, hardware, brakes and a clutch installed, along with numerous other renewed components to ensure the car is both mechanically and cosmetically sharp.
Cosmetically the car is offered in superb condition, with little to no signs of wear throughout the exterior. The only imperfections to be found are a chip in the windscreen, paint chip in the rear allow and one on the corner of the rear spoiler. On the interior the car presents beautifully, with original stickers in the binnacle and new old stock radio sourced from BMW. The interior has also been swapped out, from the original grey leather to the extremely rare and desirable M-Sport cloth seats and door cards.
Mechanically the car continues the theme of both the interior and exterior, driving superbly and perfectly capturing the essence of the E36 M3. With some very subtle modifications the driving experience is better than any standard car with lowering springs (retaining the OEM dampers) and polybushes in place of the OEM rubber bushings.
With six former keepers recorded, the car presents as an excellent opportunity to acquire a low-mileage M3 Evo that has benefitted from major recent investment.
