SUMMARY

A usable and complete Mk2 RS2000 showing 64,000 genuine miles, recently MOT’d, running and driving well, with an excellent interior and a garaged, rust-free underside.

DESCRIPTION

Background:
It was back in 1970 that Ford introduced their Rallye Sport models, the RS range. Originally conceived as a means of building limited numbers of homologation specials for competition use, the badge soon became synonymous with performance, style and desirability. By 1976, when the Escort RS2000 Mk2 was launched, the term 'RS' had come to signify something genuinely special within Ford’s line-up.

Unlike the Mk1, which was designed solely by Ford of Great Britain, the Mk2 Escort was a more sophisticated collaboration with Ford of Germany. Based on the two-door saloon shell, the RS2000 employed the proven 2.0-litre, inline four-cylinder SOHC Pinto engine mounted longitudinally to drive the rear wheels. It was equipped with a twin-venturi Weber 32/36 DGAV carburettor, producing around 110bhp, and featured independent MacPherson strut front suspension, leaf-sprung rear axle with telescopic dampers, front disc brakes and rear drums. The RS2000’s signature 'droop snoot' polyurethane nose housing quad headlamps gave the car its unmistakably aggressive appearance, while a 0–60mph time of under nine seconds and a top speed approaching 110mph ensured it went as well as it looked.

The Car:
First registered in 1978, this Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 shows 64,000 genuine miles and presents as a complete and running car. Originally a South African import, it has benefitted from a dry climate and has been kept garaged, resulting in a clean and rust-free underside. The car starts and runs without issue and drives well, with no immediate needs reported by the seller. It is MOT’d until August 2026.

The interior is noted to be in excellent condition and mainly without fault, like the exterior is wonderfully presented, there are a few blemishes here and there, sadly the history file isn’t the biggest, believe to have been lost when transported over.

Used sparingly and dry stored ever since, the car still presents extremely well. It wears four perfect tyres, with another untouched on the spare wheel. Supplied on the button with long MOT, it looks stunning, drives wonderfully and is now ready to find its rightful place in any classic car or Ford enthusiast’s Collection.
