SUMMARY
A late-production Brooklands with recent paint, extensive mechanical refurbishment and just under 98,000 miles from new.
DESCRIPTION
Background:
The Ford Capri 2.8 Injection Special, known more colloquially as the ‘Brooklands’, was the final evolution of Ford’s enduring coupe. Named unofficially after its distinctive Brooklands Green paintwork, the model marked the end of Capri production and brought together several desirable features. These included the five-speed gearbox, limited-slip differential, seven-spoke RS wheels, half-leather Recaro interior and colour-coded bodywork, all fitted as standard.
With production ending in 1987, just 500 examples of the Capri 280 were built, making it one of the rarest and most desirable variants. It has since become a modern classic in its own right, sought after by enthusiasts for its analogue driving experience and iconic Fast Ford status.
The Car:
First registered in 1987 and supplied new by Cleales of Saffron Walden, this example presents today with a recorded mileage of 97,891 miles. It retains a large and detailed history file, which includes the original service book, many historic MOT certificates and documentation from throughout its life.
The car was subject to a total body and interior restoration in 2000, with full documentation and photographs included in the file. In 2001 it was acquired at Bonhams & Brooks’ RAF Museum, Hendon Sale, at which time it had covered around 81,000 miles and was noted to have a full service history and continuous MOT record.
Following a period of limited use and additional refurbishment, it was sold again in 2016 and has since been further improved by the current owner. Notable works include a full repaint in the correct Brooklands Green approximately five years ago, along with significant mechanical attention. This includes a new stainless steel exhaust system, fuel tank, injectors and sender, as well as a replacement fuel injection system. The car has also been polybushed, undersealed for weather protection and is fitted with correct wheels.
The interior is trimmed in Raven leather with the correct grey cloth inserts and presents in excellent condition, having been re-connolised around seven years ago and now showing a pleasing patina. The only noted flaw is a small hole in the nearside rear seat. The original Philips radio remains in place, as do the correct Cibie spotlights.
The Capri has recently been serviced in June and is offered with a fresh MOT valid until November 2026.
Recent maintenance includes:
• New fuel tank, sender and injectors
• New fuel injection system
• Stainless steel exhaust
• Polybushed suspension
• Underbody weather protection
• Professional respray in Brooklands Green
• Interior leather re-connolised
• Recent service (June)
• New MOT valid until November 2026
