SUMMARY

A charming and characterful 1931 Austin Seven AF Tourer 'Chummy', known affectionately as 'Amanda' and offered from very long term ownership. VSCC-eligible and accompanied by a continuation buff logbook from the 1950s onwards, along with every V5C iteration to date.

DESCRIPTION

Background:
The Austin Seven is a true icon of British motoring history. Introduced in the early 1920s as an affordable, practical car for the masses, it quickly became a favourite across the UK and abroad. Its simple yet robust mechanicals, cheerful styling and surprising usability have earned it a loyal following over the decades, with the 'Chummy' Tourer among the most sought-after variants. Eligible for VSCC events and pre-war rallies, the Austin 7 remains a favourite of vintage motoring enthusiasts.

The Car:
This delightful 1931 example has been in the hands of its current custodian for longer than he can precisely recall – certainly over 40 years and likely close to 50. Purchased in the 1970s from a Birmingham car dealer for £125, it was spotted by the vendor as he drove past one evening and couldn’t resist. Since then, it has been carefully garaged, used sparingly, and taken to numerous events.

Nicknamed 'Amanda', the little Austin received significant engine work in 2005, including a re-bore, new pistons and a replacement crankshaft. It has seen very little use since, though it was last started approximately three weeks ago. A carburettor clean, fresh spark plugs and general recommissioning would be sensible before regular use.

Presented with charming patina throughout, the bodywork remains pleasing with only light corrosion visible on the door edges and running boards. The chassis is in good order. Weather gear is fitted and serviceable, though showing signs of age as expected. A comprehensive history folder accompanies the car, including a continuation buff logbook starting in the late 1950s, every version of the V5 logbook since and the current modern V5C. Various receipts and notes from over the years are also included.
