SUMMARY
Superbly presented in gleaming Tour de France Blue over tan leather, this UK-supplied 612 Scaglietti is one of the very rare examples fitted with a manual gearbox and has covered just over 7,700 miles from new.
DESCRIPTION
As a mark of respect for their decade's long working relationship, Ferrari named the 612 after the legendary Sergio Scaglietti, whose famous design house, Carrozzeria Scaglietti, was responsible for the look of some of the most stunning coachbuilt Ferraris in the 1950s and 1960s. The design of the 612 is said to have been inspired by the 1954 Rossellini-Bergman custom 375MM, which was commissioned by film director Roberto Rossellini for his lovely wife, the actress, Ingrid Bergman. The model features deep side scallops and large headlights together with a long, sleek silhouette and the result is an imposing, distinctive looking car, projecting dynamism and power.
This sporty front-engined, rear-wheel drive Ferrari is a paradox Ferrari, being an energetic car to drive, yet also having four full seats for passengers, making it suitable for longer journeys and city use too. A genuine departure from previous GT models, the 612 Scaglietti's transaxle transmission sees the rear-mounted 6-speed gearbox working with the limited-slip differential in a shared function and this, combined with the first ever all aluminium body on a 12-cylinder Ferrari, makes for fantastic dynamics as well as improved comfort and safety.
The majority of these cars were built with the F1 automatic gearbox, however, there are always customers who prefer a three-pedal option, and this is one of just 32 examples believed to be produced for the UK-market and one of just 199 manual gearbox cars manufactured worldwide. It's finished in the very desirable and understated combination of Tour de France Blue (544) with tan leather and is in superb condition throughout as at the time of cataloguing the odometer displayed just 7,724 miles.
Registered new on 28th May 2005, this 612 has been used sparingly but always diligently maintained even when the mileage was low. The original leather bound service book displays six stamps, although invoices on file suggests it has received seven annual services. It’s benefited from three all important cambelt changes with the latest one being in July of 2021. It’s also supplied with the original dealer book pack with all the relevant manuals and a Ferrari brochure demonstrating an 'on the road' price at the time of £170,500, before options of course.
Acquired by our vendor in 2021 with the intention of completing a European Grand Tour at some point, something that he had always wanted to do and for which the Scaglietti was eminently suitable. With the Grand Tour scheduled for July of this year, the car was despatched to Dick Lovett Swindon in June and they carried out an annual service, engine oil and filter change, brake fluid change, replacement of the headlining, hand brake shoes, air-conditioning refill and fitment of a new Ferrari battery. As noted in its most recent MOT, a pair of lower suspension ball joints and new wipers were also fitted to rectify those advisories. The account for this totalled some £8,000 and we understand that the Ferrari behaved impeccably on the extended European Tour.
With that 'bucket list' box ticked, the Scaglietti is now for sale so, if you are in the market for a beautifully presented, very low-mileage, fastidiously maintained, four-seat Ferrari Grand Tourer with a manual gearbox, then we encourage your viewing of this elegant 612 Scaglietti at our Iconic Sale at the NEC.
