SUMMARY
Fast, focused and unapologetically analogue, this factory-built Westfield V8 combines a John Eales Rover V8 with Nitron suspension to deliver pure driving engagement at a fraction of the cost of comparable performance cars.
DESCRIPTION
Founded in 1982, Westfield Sportscars quickly established a reputation for producing high-quality, lightweight British sports cars inspired by classic roadsters but engineered with modern materials and components. Based in the UK, Westfield became particularly well regarded for the accuracy of its chassis design, build quality and for offering turn-key cars alongside kits, appealing to both enthusiasts and serious drivers. Over the years the marque has developed a loyal following, especially for its more powerful models which offer exceptional performance relative to weight.
The Westfield SEight represents the most extreme expression of the company’s philosophy. Developed to accommodate a V8 powerplant, the SEight features a substantially strengthened tubular steel chassis, wider track, uprated suspension and braking systems, and revised drivetrain components compared to the four-cylinder SE and SEi models. Power is typically provided by an all-aluminium Rover-derived V8, available in various capacities, delivering strong torque and effortless acceleration in a car weighing little more than 700kg depending on specification.
With independent suspension all round, rack-and-pinion steering and large disc brakes, the SEight offers performance levels comparable with contemporary supercars, yet retains the analogue, unfiltered driving experience for which lightweight British sports cars are known. The combination of compact dimensions, low mass and V8 power results in formidable straight-line performance, sharp handling and an engaging, visceral driving character. Today, well-built SEights are increasingly recognised as serious performance machines and represent a compelling alternative to far more expensive modern sports cars.
Offered here at Race Retro 2026 is a factory-manufactured Westfield SEight, first registered in 2003. It is remarkably well presented, finished in pin-sharp Old English White (Cream) with a neatly appointed black-trimmed cabin. The car is equipped with the desirable contour dashboard and glovebox, along with a full wet-weather package comprising hood, side screens, optional wind deflectors and a heater for both screen and cabin. Additional features include a Momo steering wheel, RAC-type roll bar, detachable rear arches and valance, and a spare, more heavily silenced exhaust.
We are informed that the car has been correctly dry-stored throughout its life and, as such, the chassis presents in excellent order, with only a few minor stone chips to the rear arches indicating light use.
This example also benefits from a number of carefully considered upgrades that enhance the driving experience. Power is provided by a John Eales Developments-built, 4.6-litre Rover V8 producing a quoted 240bhp and an impressive 200lb/ft of torque at just 1,000rpm, supported by an accompanying dyno sheet. The chassis is equipped with Nitron suspension, while power is transmitted to the road through a Tremec T5 gearbox, an uprated limited-slip differential and a full set of recent Toyo tyres. Braking performance is assured by four-pot competition-specification calipers with vented discs and for added security the car is fitted with an immobiliser system.
In summary, this is a highly appealing British sports car offering a dynamic, analogue driving experience at a price point that offers very little competition in terms of performance, engagement and enjoyment in such a focused and well-sorted package.
