SUMMARY
One of just 256 right-hand drive cars supplied worldwide, this Iceberg Silver, 227bhp, 3.0-litre V6 Clio is a striking example of the first generation of RenaultSport's baby supercar.
DESCRIPTION
- UK-supplied, right-hand drive Phase 1 Renault Clio V6 first registered in November 2002 and understood to be one of just 223 examples finished in Iceberg Silver
- A spin-off from the Clio Trophy race series and first previewed at the Paris Motor Show in 1998, the Clio V6 230 was in many ways the spiritual successor to the mid-engined 5 Turbo
- Where the rear seats would normally be nestled a tweaked version of the proven and unstressed 3.0-litre, 24v, V6 unit from the Laguna saloon offering access to 227bhp (230PS) fed to the rear wheels and enabling 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds and 146mph
- The Phase 1 cars were assembled by hand at the Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) workshops in Uddevalla in Sweden, using parts shipped from France, producing just 1,513 examples between 2001 and 2003
- This example has formed part of a carefully curated collection of significant hot hatches over the past decade, stored correctly in a modern, temperature-controlled facility
- Showing signs of considered ownership over the years with a substantial history file documenting maintenance by respected specialist garages
- Notable recent mechanical works (in terms of mileage) include a cambelt and water pump replacement at 66,954 miles, followed by clutch and flywheel renewal
- Retains a high degree of originality, further supported by inclusion of a set of standard Phase 1 alloy wheels
- At the time of cataloguing the Clio fired into life easily, sounded healthy and manoeuvred well on the photoshoot. Offered with the private registration ‘V6 PMO’, which forms part of the sale
- Increasingly regarded as one of the most distinctive and collectible modern classics of the early 2000s, combining rarity, striking design and a unique mid-engined layout
